Inspired by a trip to Iceland in June 2009. The Icelandic laceweight yarn was purchased at Alafoss. I started knitting in Seyðisfjörður, ripped it out and started again in Akureyri.

As usual I changed my mind about minor details as I went along - the flat photo below is the most accurate representation of the final design.

The shawl starts and ends with a single stitch and is worked in one piece. The charting is not too complex - but you need to jump between charts as the border triangles are charted separately.

Knit on US6/4mm needles using 4 balls of Ístex Loðband Einband Icelandic laceweight yarn col 0008 grey, total approx. 985yds/900m.
Maximum finished dimensions after blocking: 27in/68cm x 88in/224cm

The pdf includes charts and instructions.
