The first in a series of patterns combining plain knitted areas with an airy drop stitch mesh. The sample is quite small and was made with one ball of sock yarn: finished dimensions of sample shown in photos: 100x50cm/39x20in. The sample was knit on 3.25mm/US3 needles with one ball 100g/420m/459yds of Schoppel-Wolle Zauberball Sock yarn, Tropical Fish colorway. Approximate dimensions with two balls 200g/840m/918yds: 200x50cm/78x20in The pattern is very easy: yarn overs, decreases, knitting through the back loop, and a “make one” increase. The change in gauge between the plain knit areas and the mesh creates a subtle wavy distortion - perfect for variegated and self-striping yarns, or multifarious leftovers. The series of patterns is called Camino because the first sample I did reminded me of the scallop shell symbol of the Camino de Santiago.
