A textured stitch pattern with ribbing and drop stitch bubbles, ideal for warm scarves, wraps, shawls, afghans, blankets or throws. The base of ribbing adds a deep three dimensional structure to the fabric, with strong shadows and highlights. The sample scarf was left unblocked to preserve the texture. The columns of bubbles stretch apart to varying degrees when the shawl is handled and worn. This effect is more apparent in bigger projects with the extra weight of the fabric. This is a completely reversible stitch pattern.

 

This stitch pattern eats up a lot of yarn! The scarf shown here requires one ball of yarn. Allow two or more balls for a larger project. There are two variations of the pattern, one with symmetrical side edges (main photos), and the other with asymmetrical edges (see swatch in darker colorway below).

 

The scarf was knit on 2.5mm/US1.5 needles with one ball, 100g/420m/460yds of Schoppel Wolle Crazy Zauberball yarn, colorway Buntmetall (2231)

 

The yarn keeps the project interesting with constantly evolving harmonious color combinations. The bubbles can be knit with different colorways or leftovers of different yarns.

 

Dimensions of scarf with one ball of yarn:

Length approximately 88cm/34.5in 48cm/19in, width varies between 20cm/8ins and 30cm/12ins depending on stretching.

 

Gauge: approximately 25 rows = 10cm/4in in drop stitch bubble pattern, the stitch gauge is very variable, depending on drape.

 

The pdf includes full written patterns for both variations, with notes and instructions. The patterns are easily memorized so there's no need for charts!
