A vibrant and creative scarf or shawl pattern inspired by ancient Egyptian jewellery & painting. The overlapping motifs are formed by a fusion of stacked stitches & short rows.

When left unblocked, the scarf has undulating edges, and a surface and texture similar to the overlapping scales of date palm bark. The pattern is worked mainly in garter stitch, and can be used for a variety of projects from a narrow scarf to a wider shawl, afghan or cushion cover.

The scarf project pictured was knit on 3.25mm/US3 needles with Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift, with approximately 100g/460yds/420m in lots of colors

Dimensions of scarf: 127cm/50ins by 19cm/7.5ins

Gauge: approximately 18 sts & 24 rows = 10cm/4in in pattern

This is a written pattern with notes on techniques and a phototutorial on splicing yarn ends.

Luxor is also available as part of the knit/lab Stacked Stitches volume 2 eBook.
