knit/lab/jelly rolls

Jelly Rolls is a deliciously squishy comforting scarf, wrap, or shawl pattern using scraps of different colors. The pattern is inspired by jelly rolls, strips of fabric for quilt-making which are rolled together, with glimpses of many different colors showing at the edges.

In the pattern, the colored ridges of stocking stitch and reverse stocking stitch are transformed into fluid curves by simple arrangements of increases and decreases.

The knitting is left unblocked to emphasize the three dimensional texture of the ridges.

I used lots of leftovers, changing color every three rows. You can also use a self-striping yarn for a similar effect.

This is an easy knit. The pattern is fully written out with no need for a chart!

The sample was knit on 4mm/US6 needles with approximately 200g/800m/880yds of a combination of yarns including Hedgehog Fibres sock minis, Crazy Zauberball and Jamieson’s of Shetland Spindrift.

Dimensions unblocked: approximately 120cm/47in x 41cm/16in

Gauge unblocked: approximately 20 stitches & 42 rows = 10cm/4in in stitch pattern

The pdf includes the full written pattern, with notes and instructions and a splicing phototutorial.

Jelly Rolls is also available as part of the knit/lab Easy Patterns eBook.
