knit/lab/Donnie at the Duck Pond

An opulent scarf or shawl featuring sweeping chevrons in multiple colors. The stitch pattern combines clustered increases with stacked decreases and is inspired by Donnie’s favorite pastime/obsession of retrieving sticks from the duck pond, inadvertently amplifying the ripples, reflections and color combinations in the water. The pattern looks complex but can soon be memorized.

Knit on 4mm/US6 needles with 360g/1512m/1653yds of Crazy Zauberball in the following colorways, which were developed in collaboration with Schoppel Wolle:

Early Autumn, Late Autumn, Cool Botanical Garden, Warm Botanical Garden, Dark Roses.

All five colorways can be viewed here.

Finished dimensions: approximately 74ins/188cm by 19.5ins/50cm

Approximate gauge: 50 stitches and 16 rows = 4in/10cm in pattern

I changed color every four rows creating “purl bumps” on the RS and crisper transitions on the WS, splicing the yarns at each color change. Alternatively, you can change colors randomly, or avoid splicing by using a single colorway with more color variation for different effects.

This is a written pattern with notes on increasing and decreasing, instructions, a splicing phototutorial and lots of photos.

There is no chart!
